Kawartha Scale Modellers • KSM – IPMS
KSM Club Meetings
Build. Create. Inspire.
Kawartha Scale Modellers is a hands-on club for builders at every level — from first kits to advanced finishing, macro-detail work, and competition-level craftsmanship.
KSM meetings are built around real bench craft, practical demonstrations, shared knowledge, finished models, in-progress builds, problem-solving, and good company. Bring a model, bring a question, or just come out and see what the club is about.
Hands-On Bench Craft
KSM is built around practical modelling. Bring real projects, real questions, and real bench problems. The focus is always on techniques that actually work.
Shared Learning
From first kits to refined finishes, the club compresses the learning curve through demos, discussion, practical feedback, and member-to-member knowledge.
Good Company
Modelling is better with other modellers. KSM is friendly, welcoming, and focused on bench knowledge rather than gatekeeping.
What Happens at a KSM Meeting
KSM meetings are designed to be useful, practical, and enjoyable. There is room for finished work, in-progress builds, questions, experiments, technique discussion, and the occasional modelling rescue mission.
Member Show-and-Tell
Bring what you are building — finished, in progress, or full-on problem child. Meetings are a safe place to share progress, get practical feedback, and trade tips that work at the bench.
Demos and Mini-Workshops
Short, focused demos are a core part of KSM. Topics may include airbrushing, painting workflows, masking, weathering, clear coats, panel lining, oils, groundwork, tools, adhesives, and finishing problems.
Swap / Free / Sale Table
Bring kits, parts, decals, tools, aftermarket items, reference books, or paint you will never use. Label items clearly if they are for sale; otherwise, mark them swap or free.
Raffle / Club Draw
Club draws keep the meeting fun and help support club activities. You may leave with a surprise tool, supplies, or something useful for the next build.
Why Scale Modelling Works
Scale modelling combines craft, art, history, design, engineering, patience, and problem-solving in one activity. It can be relaxing, technical, creative, and deeply rewarding — all at the same bench.
- craft, art, and engineering in one activity
- deep focus without being screen-based
- problem-solving, patience, and real skill-building
- a rewarding loop: plan, build, finish, improve
- a hobby that can stay simple or go full technical
Doing the hobby with other modellers makes everything faster: better techniques, fewer dead ends, stronger motivation, and more confidence at the bench.
Who Should Come?
- brand new modellers
- returning builders restarting the hobby
- armour, aircraft, automotive, sci-fi, ships, rail, figures, fantasy, vignettes, and dioramas
- anyone looking for a friendly club with real bench knowledge
What to Bring
- a model at any stage, or photos on your phone
- questions you are stuck on
- optional items for the swap / free / sale table
- optional item for raffle or door prizes
