MODELLER'S SHOW, April 12-13, 2025: 10 am—3 pm

KSM-IPMS Show Participation and Display: Lindsay & District Model Railroaders

Celebrating 50 Years of Modelling Mastery at the Lindsay Armouries

For half a century, the Lindsay & District Model Railroaders have brought their passion for historical transportation to life at the Lindsay Armouries. Now in its 50th year, this annual show is a vibrant celebration of intricate modelling, community spirit, and the rich heritage of transportation systems—from land to air and sea.

A Labour of Love and Dedication

Behind every display and diorama lies the dedication of a devoted team of volunteers. The show is not just an exhibition; it’s a project that begins every September. For months, members of the Lindsay & District Model Railroaders meticulously prepare, design, and perfect every detail, ensuring that each piece captures the essence of historical transportation with remarkable accuracy.

This event is a true community effort. The costs to stage the show exceed $4,000 in 2025 alone, with expenses covered entirely by door receipts and generous member donations. Even the logistics reflect careful planning—a year in advance the venue is booked and half the rent is paid, with the balance due in January. Every financial and planning detail is managed with the same precision as the models on display.

A Showcase of Historical Craftsmanship

The event is a tribute to the art of recreating historical transportation systems. Attendees can marvel at:

  • Watercraft Exhibits: Both static displays and remote-controlled models that demonstrate the evolution of maritime design.
  • Live Steam Locomotives: Exquisitely detailed engines that chug back in time, offering a glimpse into the golden era of rail travel.
  • Remote Control Aircraft: Miniatures that take flight, capturing the spirit of early aviation innovation.
  • Static Land, Sea, and Air Miniatures: From stand-alone pieces to elaborate dioramas, these displays highlight the painstaking detail and historical accuracy of each model.
  • Wood Carvings and Multi-Scale Dioramas: Artistic creations and intricate layouts that represent entire transportation systems across various scales.

Each exhibit not only demonstrates the modeller’s skill but also tells a story—of technological advancement, historical significance, and the timeless allure of recreating the past.

More Than Just a Model Show

This event is as much about community as it is about models. It provides an ideal venue to:

  • Socialize with Like-Minded Historians: Fellow modellers and enthusiasts come together, sharing tips, stories, and experiences that enrich the community.
  • Exchange Ideas and Feedback: Whether you’re showcasing your latest project or admiring another’s work, there’s plenty of opportunity for praise, constructive suggestions, and collaborative learning.
  • Source New Supplies: Many vendors and local suppliers attend the show, offering parts, tools, and materials to help hobbyists take their craft to the next level.

The show also marks a festive end to a long Canadian winter and the vibrant arrival of spring—an annual reminder of the rejuvenation that comes with both nature and creativity.

A New Chapter in Tradition

In an exciting evolution of our storied tradition, the event has been rebranded from the “Modelling Rial Road Show” to simply the “Modelling Show.” Now presenting the KSM – IPMS Kawartha Scale Modellers Club, this new title reflects our commitment to embracing change while honoring our rich heritage. It symbolizes a fresh chapter that welcomes both longtime enthusiasts and newcomers alike, uniting all under a shared passion for historical recreation and creative excellence.

A Legacy of Passion and Precision

As the Lindsay & District Model Railroaders continue their tradition, they do more than recreate historical transportation devices—they keep a piece of history alive. This celebration of craftsmanship and community spirit has stood the test of time, evolving with each passing year while remaining true to its roots. With every meticulously crafted model and every shared smile, the event reinforces the idea that history, art, and community can come together to create something truly extraordinary.
