Lacquer Thinners: Notable Differences

Blue/Yellow Label Mr.COLOR THINNER (Blue Label) and Mr.COLOR LEVELLING THINNER (Yellow Label) are identical products except for a levelling agent retarding drying time. The retarder allows the paint to level out along with prolonged outgassing to help reduce orange peel formation.

Mr. LEVELING THINNER (Blue/Yellow Label) is added a ratio of 1:1 or 2:1 (thinner to paint) to improve coat levelling and increase shine (Yellow Label). Advanced modellers can use higher thinner to paint ratios.

Mr.LEVELLING THINNER (Yellow Label) is particularly useful in covering up any overspray or helping prevent it from drying until you can get back to it for a smooth glossy finish. It also helps prevent blushing when the humidity gets trapped in paint and you end up with a foggy finish.

⚠️ An inline moisture trap does not affect atmospheric humidity between nozzle and surface.

Mr.LEVELLING THINNER (Blue/Yellow Label) can be used with gloss, matte and metallic paint.

Red Label Mr.COLOR RAPID THINNER (Red Label) is an accelerated flash-off thinner intended for matte and metallic paints. When metallic paint is used in particular, metallic particles are aligned evenly to produce a neat glossy surface. Light thin coat applications produce the best metallic finishes.

⚠️ Mr.COLOR RAPID THINNER (Red Label) is not compatible with gloss paints or Mr.METAL COLOR.
